Sonja Oberkofler (1996) grew up in South Tyrol (Italy) and got in touch with music already in early years. At the age of eight she found her real passion: the saxophone. In 2015 she joint the class of Ties Mellema at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Tilburg (The Netherlands). Additional studies have included the Bad-Homburg Masterclass in Germany, Barcelona Modern Festival in Spain and more, with world-renowned saxophonists, such as Claude Delangle, Arno Bornkamp, Jean-Denis Michat, Christian Wirth, Pawel Gusnar, Simon Diricq among others.
Sonja worked with different composers like Anthony Fiumara, Aura Bouw, Vlad Chlek, Aart Strootmans performing several world premieres. She got the opportunity to work with world-renowned artists, such as the All-star ensemble Bang on a Can, ASKOISchönberg, TEMKO and Nico Lagarde and played as a passionate chamber musician concerts in halls like the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Bimhuis Amsterdam and National Opera Amsterdam. In her early years of her performing career, Sonja was already part of different interdisciplinary performances including the Opera Forward Festival in Amsterdam, Duet AskoISchönberg, Bosch Parade and Grachtenfestival. In 2017 she played together with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Fontys Saxophone Ensemble for the dutch royal family. Sonja is a Newzik ambassador and nominee of the Jacques de Leeuw Price 2020.
